Tell me something about you and artistic background.
Born in Salzburg (AT), currently living in Vienna.. Artistic Background: Unfortunately I have too many artistic interests, so I am settled somewhere between Video, Live Cinema, VJing, Music & Music Visualisations, Media Art and Photography, somewhere between analog simplicity (with some of my personal works) and digital complicity (I mean a mixture of complexity and simplicity, for example my contributions under the label 1n0ut, -> http://www.1n0ut.com)
Tell me about this film, initial idea and work process.
Occasionally the last years I had the chance to experiment in the frame of artist in residency programs. So in that case it was Paris. These sort of residencies give you the freedom to think and work in ways that you usually (in your "normal life") dont. So in that case I had the feeling that I wanted to create "something" in a way that usually Music is being created, based on a certain emotion, not thinking too much about a concept...So sooner or later the concept and story and sound came almost by themselves...and sooner or later the whole thing made sense to me...One basic idea behind was the fact that the public in the (bigger) museums in Paris seemed kind of strange to me...I often had the feeling that they have to be there (not that they want to be there), because their tourist guide tells them to do so...So i asked myself the question, how could you "excite" these people. On the other hand you could see in my film my personal attempt to keep art vivid and transformable.
Are you working on new projects at the moment?
Of course, always working because I like and I have to. On the one hand I am still producing smaller short film/VideoArt experiments, on the other hand in the frame of the collective 1n0ut we have established a Live Media Dance Performance called CPU, which combines Live Performers with Live Stereoscopic Imagery (sort of IMAX-experience, but in a live context). http://www.1n0ut.com/cpu
Do you have specific influences in your film/video making?
Hmmm, these change from day to day. Rather unspecific influences ;) are life, all sorts of music, the happy or sad person you sit opposite to in the subway in the morning etc. It is hard to get tooo specific, but in general my influences are directors or Media Artists or Live Performers who feel connected to Music and who create works that touch you by itself (and not by explaining why they should touch you)
Why is it important for you to show your film/video in a festival?
Hmmm...I dont know if it is important to show MY specific film in a festival. But it is very important that film/video festivals in general exist, and I think it is a good idea to try to contribute to these festivals. Because film festivals (and cinema) have a certain athmosphere that you cannot "copy/paste" on TV or on the internet. I mean, of course you can watch way too many excellent films on youtube/vimeo etc. nowadays, but it is just not the same. For example if I think of my film "In Transit", it is very different, if you watch it in a Cinema, where you cannot "escape" or where you dont have the chance to "click it away". So somehow, if I think about it, while I write these lines, it is important that you show MY specific film ;) To my mind, it works much better under certain circumstances, because the film has something meditative and oppressive, which takes time and quietness. Circumstances that you rather have in Cinema and Festivals, but not on youtube or TV.
What role do you think Oslo Screen Festival should have to promote your work?*
Hmm...Well I guess I have to stay realistic. It is a small film, done by one person, unfortunately it is not "Avatar" ;) and i guess you have tons of other great films there as well. So I cannot expect too much promotion. But I am happy that "In Transit" found its way to Oslo, that is already some promotion, if furthermore happens (catalogue, media coverage etc.), great and I am thankful (but I dont necessarily expect it)
