Regents Canal DV, 5', 2008 UK |
Tell me something about you and artistic background.
I am a Video and Film artist from the UK who studied Film and Music Technology before completing an MA at the RCA in 2009.
Tell me about this film, initial idea and work process.
The film Regents Canal incorporates sounds and images from one of the lesser seen areas of London. Beneath the busy city flows the old heart of the city through its canals and waterways. The film captures a single hidden area through the interplay of light, sound, water and architecture. Thematically the film also reflects on this rapidly changing area of London and of City’s in general; by doing so the film suggests the possibility of still being able to experience nature and stillness.
Are you working on new projects at the moment?
Currently I am working on films that experiment with ways of representing and evoking experiences of place and that reflect on traces and disappearence.
Do you have specific influences in your film/video making?
I am influenced by some photographers (Eugene Atget, Willie Doherty) and filmmakers such as James Benning and Margaret Tait.
Why is it important for you to show your film/video in a festival?
Showing is important in gaining critical feedback on my work, whilst also feeling connected to a community of filmmakers. Exhibition opportunities also allow an outcome and aim for a project.
What role do you think Oslo Screen Festival should have to promote your work?
Connecting artists and exhibitors together.
