Tell me something about you and artistic background.
After I finished school I had an intern ship in a video factory for some months together with my girlfriend. There I made my first little movies and got familiar with the technical side of filming. At that time period and the following years I had a lot of exchange on filming with some companions. I studied fine art and art history for 3 years at the university of Greifswald. Now I study multimedia|virtual reality design and run my own film projects beside.
Tell me about this film, initial idea and work process.
It's a student work and the task was to visualize sound. The big idea came within minutes while I had (unusually for me at this time) no music in my ears. Followed by weeks of rethinking I made my final storyboard. With this in my hand the filming and cutting needed just two days and it was finished. Beside the plot the main idea was to select music that is representative for the protagonist's thinking and feeling. While thrilling music would also fit I wanted to the beholder come emotionally closer to him.
Are you working on new projects at the moment?
This years I will collaborate with a museum for several films for an exhibition. My task is to show the inspirational places for the paintings. I have some film ideas in my head but they must grow until I take the camera in my hand. My actual student work is an installation that brings telekinetic powers to everyone.
Do you have specific influences in your film/video making?
I love the work of Stanley Kubrick, Darren Aronofsky and Michel Gondry. German influences are Andreas Dresen, Michael Haneke and Tom Tykwer.
Why is it important for you to show your film/video in a festival?
I will never have the chance to see my own film for the first time so feedback by different people will help me to have a glimpse of it. This will be a big for future projects.
What role do you think Oslo Screen Festival should have to promote your work?
It will be the first time my film will be shown abroad. I am very interested in the reaction, specially for the fact that it has no spoken words and therefore it should bring a universal understanding. I think the OSF selection was done within the sope art. Therefore the audience will have another approach then on more cinematic film festival.
