Distances 16mm/DV, 9'55'', 2009 Croatia |
Tell me something about you and artistic background.
I like to search through different art forms and styles. In film I am interested in exploring tensions between the inner world of human beings and the exterior world that encloses them. Before film school I graduated in philosophy and comparative literature. I hold MFA in cinema from San Francisco State University. At this moment I live in Zagreb, Croatia.
Tell me about this film, initial idea and work process.
Distances is made out of 35mm stills and some video footage. It is shot in New York City where I lived at that time. Distances explores some of the problems of migration through experiences of three women who worked on the film, Jasna Culic-Viskota, the actor in the film, Emer Martin, who wrote and read the voice over, and my own. So, the film has a personal note.
Are you working on new projects at the moment?
Yes. Recently I completed a new short film, Reopening the Past. I am in post-production with Inside Out, also a short film.
Do you have specific influences in your film/video making?
I am trying to develop my own film language but I do have influences. Andrei Tarkovsky is the filmmaker I admire the most. One of the films I appreciate very much is also Maya Deren’s Meshes of the Afternoon.
Why is it important for you to show your film/video in a festival?
For me it is really a joy to see my films on a big screen and also I like to go with them out of my room and my privacy. I like to hear what people think of my films.
What role do you think Oslo Screen Festival should have to promote your work?
I hope the screening will go well, that audience will appreciate it and let me know their opinions.
